Pulling In The Reigns
For some of you it's been quite a while since we last spoke. This email is going out to those I've met in Dallas and those I've met over the last year in Los Angeles.
In many ways I have always felt like an animal at the gates waiting to be released and to run freely. In music terms, I've been on the edge of my seat impatiently awaiting the "musician bus" that takes us to the promised land (of course, I turn carnivorous in the bus and eliminate all competition before we arrive.) There at the destination somebody (somebody that inevitably works at Sony Studios) scans over all you have to offer and decides if it's worth an investment.
Moving to LA a year ago has taught me a lot. In this time I've developed an appreciation for walking, literally and metaphorically (yes, it's true, I really don't have a car here) while the majority of people around me are parked in traffic. I stopped waiting for the bus (literally, again. It's always late!), grabbed my belongings, and started moving forward one step at a time. Now, through my methodical walking, I've been able to think things into place and align my visions and dreams so that they are far reaching, but attainable.
Those of you that have been watching me are, by this point, aware of where I've been going with music; how I take my passionate social, personal, environmental, all-types of injustice and say what I want through these intricate, complex combinations of Jazz, Classical, World and Blues music. How I attempt to take everything that you've hidden inside, afraid to let the world know, and say it for you because I have no problem being that person.
I've done everything from performing on the West Hollywood streets to playing in one of the most sought-after venues for local musicians, The Roxy. I've performed the "classier" venues at UCLA Berkley's International House and given lecture recitals at Santa Monica's Martin Luther King Jr. LEED certified auditorium.
Well, my walking time has been thoroughly appreciated, but now it's time to get some advanced cardio in. It's runnin' time.
The next project of many to come is my Kickstarter. Keep on the lookout for my follow up emails. In the meantime, please, if you haven't done so already, "Like" the FB page. You'll be glad you did.
Spring is a great time to launch. I'd encourage you to get things going in your life that you've been meaning to as well. Push "overwhelmed" off a cliff.
KC
